Responsible Gambling Tools at South African Sportsbooks

Every licensed South African sportsbook is required by law to provide responsible gambling tools and to link to the National Responsible Gambling Programme. Here is what tools are available and how to use them.

Deposit Limits

You can set a maximum daily, weekly, or monthly deposit limit on your account. Once the limit is set, you cannot deposit more than that amount in the specified period. Most platforms apply increases to deposit limits with a 24-hour cooling-off period, but decreases take effect immediately. You can find this setting in the responsible gambling or account settings section of any licensed SA sportsbook.

Session Time Limits

Session controls allow you to set a maximum time for each betting session. When the time limit is reached, you are automatically logged out. This helps prevent extended impulsive betting sessions.

Reality Checks

Some operators offer reality check reminders — periodic notifications while you are logged in that show how long you have been betting and how much you have won or lost in the session.

Self-Exclusion

Self-exclusion is the most serious tool available. You can request that your account be suspended for a specified period (typically one month to five years) or permanently. During exclusion, you cannot bet at that operator, receive marketing communications, or create new accounts. All major South African operators are required to offer self-exclusion.

Account Cooling-Off Period

A shorter alternative to self-exclusion. You suspend your account for a brief period (typically 24 hours to seven days) to take a break from betting. The account remains intact and your balance is preserved, but you cannot bet during the cooling-off period.

How to Access Responsible Gambling Tools

On most South African sportsbooks: log in, go to your account or profile section, and look for a responsible gambling, player protection, or safe play option. Tools should be accessible within two or three clicks. If you cannot find them, contact the operator's support team directly.
